The opportunity for fast-tracked access to funding, mentorship and global exposure has opened up for Cape Town entrepreneurs, with the launch of the third Cape Town Entrepreneur Competition, as part of Cape Town Entrepreneurship Week.
The competition focuses on technology and innovation in the fields of biotechnology, telecommunications and media, information and communication technology (ICT), ‘clean’ technology, healthcare and social entrepreneurship.
This year, the winners of the Startup and Growth tracks will each receive R50 000 in prize money, while the Idea Track winner will received R25 000. Apart from the cash prizes, the winners will also be considered for participation in further enterprise development and training programmes offered by the various partners of the City of Cape Town.
The competition opens for registration on 01 October 2010 and entries must be submitted by 15 December 2010. The winners are expected to be announced by February 2011.

Some of Africa's most exciting contemporary writer's, including Lubna Ahmed al-Hussein, Petina Gappah and Kopano Matlwa visited the Gothenburg Book Fair this year. Between them they have won The Orange Award, the Wole Soyinka Prize, the Noma Award and The Guardian's First Book Prize. They have also been nominated for the Pushcart Prize, listed as the ‘New Literary Idol' by New York Magazine, acknowledged by International PEN and praised by media the world over. 
We met with the EU Literary Award-winning Kopano Matlwa, one of South Africa’s most vibrant young writers. A medical graduate, Kopano is the author of the critically acclaimed novel Coconut. She is a founding member and chairperson of Waiting Room Education by Medical Students, a non-profit organisation run by students and is a 2010 Rhodes Scholar. She was so impressed with our initiative in South Africa.
